Any major improvements in the economy?

I was just looking at different American car manufacturers websites as I may be in the market for a new car. Surprisingly the cost of a new car is astronomical. I am specifically refering to what the average American can afford. In general the prices at the supermarket though stable are still high.
Really have not looked at the what the prices are for buying a home are, but I can guess it is not that much better. It takes time for any government policy changes to take effect, but the trend has not looked encouraging. Tax breaks no matter how positive that sounds will not really put a dent on the cost of living for the working person.
It is just amazing how we will listen to the spin that is put on by our politicians in regard to how well things are going in our country. If you just step back and look at the reality of what is going on, which is hard to do, you can see so many things, ecomomically, socially and politically that are not in line with a successful government.
The barometer for ecomic success is how well the average working person is doing.
When a government is poorly run it impacts everyone to some extent, but always worse for the working person. Companies have to cut jobs, they will survive. Politicians don't keep their word they get voted out and go back to there previous lives. Our tax dollars are wasted and we pay the bills. Just take a good look at where your tax dollars are going. Are they being spent where you are actually benefitting? I don't think so, regardless of what the politicians tell you.
When you can actually afford to live the American Dream then you know our country is heading in the right direction. Sadly that is not the case right now.
