My company has changed owners twice in last few years and that has affected our raises and bonuses which is understandable. While discussing this with a coworker who has worked in Asia we got into a general discussion on how raises are given in the Far east, Singapore in this case.
Here in the US we go by percentage of salary. At least in most of the jobs I have worked at.
Singapore gives each employee the same yearly raise regardless of salary. Bonuses are more than one a year based on performance.
My coworker explained that this felt more inclusive to the employee who had lower salaries, and that they were valued as employees. Different way of thinking. I was happy to have that conversation because it gave me a different view of how we can be compensated for our work.
